We draw upon our combined acumen and expertise to identify, develop, construct, own, operate and manage all forms of independent energy assets - be they wind, solar, hydro, biomass or waste to energy.

We measure ourselves according to a specific promise:

Our vision is to build Africa’s next great energy business by generating cleaner energy through sustained and profitable investments and partnerships in order to steer
Africa – and the World – towards a brighter, richer and more sustainable future.

We aim to emerge from Africa as one of the World’s most innovative and most valued clean energy brands – revered as a catalyst for change in the pursuit of alternate forms of affordable, cleaner energy through sustained and profitable investments and partnerships.

Built on a highly ethical set of brand values, born of mutual respect and long-term friendship, the Fusion Energy team provides the talent and expertise to develop, own and operate independent power utility partnerships in order to achieve its vision.

We know that the world is not in a good place. And we accept that there is a moral imperative for good people to do something about it.

We understand – and care deeply about – the socio-economic issues in Africa. And we accept the unique role that we can play in designing and implementing interventions that will positively impact the communities closest to the projects we commission. It’s this set of values that truly defines us as an Energy Brand.

We see Fusion Energy as a responsive and agile business in the face of an ever-changing power sector – fully maximizing returns to its shareholders, to society, and the environment. We work tirelessly to build a solid home for sound financial investments through a diverse portfolio of clean energy technologies.

This blend of acumen, expertise and principles has shaped our distinct approach to project development, finance, construction and the operation of clean energy assets across every nature and discipline in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Our founders share over 100 years of experience in energy and sustainable project development, finance, construction and operation of energy assets.

We have also accumulated significant experience in the various Government-led procurement programmes, as well as the ability to develop projects that generate energy for the private commercial market. Even more significantly, we share a strong desire to address the environmental damage of the past and to create the opportunities, both technological and financial, that will drive the energy industry towards a responsible, clean and sustainable future.

Demetri was born in Zimbabwe in 1970. He graduated from UCT with a BA with a major in Economics in 1990 and with an LLB in 1993. Although he successfully completed his attorney admission examinations in 1995, he chose not to be admitted as a practising attorney but chose to go into business. Demetri joined Steers Holdings Limited at its infancy (now Famous Brands Limited) as Group Legal Adviser and shortly thereafter was made a full board member, becoming one of the Youngest ever board members of a JSE listed company. Demetri held many roles on the board including, inter alia, Legal and New Business Development for the group. Demetri is considered to be one of the pioneers of the development of SMME franchising on the greater African continent and has the impressive record of successfully establishing 77 Steers and Debonairs outlets in 18 African countries between 1996 until 2001. Demetri stood down from the board of Steers Holdings in May 2002 to pursue other business interests. From 2004 Demetri has pursued a vision of establishing an African energy company. In doing so he was involved in the establishment of a number of energy businesses including as co-founder of Helius Energy Plc in the UK, a 10mw Middelburg based gas-fired plant with Investec and ADC Projects in 2007 and a 30MW Biomass Plant with Fusion Global Holdings Proprietary Limited and Sappi Limited. Demetri was retained as adviser by Exxaro to assist in unbundling their energy interests into a new energy company. This was done successfully and culminated in the formation of Cennergi in 2012 which has successfully developed 2 fully operational wind farms totalling 224MW. All of this culminated in the creation of Fusion as an entity into which the years of experience, networks and projects could be consolidated into the creation of an energy company. Demetri is, therefore, a co-founder and major shareholder in Fusion.

Demetri has held directorships both locally and internationally on both the JSE and LSE. He was also an original member of the NEPAD Business Foundation holding the position of chairman of the FMCG sector for 4 years. Demetri is a seasoned speaker globally on energy, entrepreneurship and doing business in Africa. In 2007 he was listed as one of Africa’s top 25 most influential business people. In 2013 he received a leadership recognition award from the SAWIP alongside ten other prominent South Africans
